WHY HAVE WE MADE GOD SO COMPLICATED?
“When you can see
God in small things,
you’ll see God in
all things.”
Donald L. Hicks
This
must be the third or fourth time, someone – a Christian – called me up to
check, “Am I speaking with Gerald D’Cunha?”
“Yes, Sir, you
are speaking with Gerald D’Cunha,” I answered.
“Mr. Gerald, are
you a Catholic or a Protestant?” the caller asked me, after identifying himself
and the Centre he was calling from.
That’s when I realized,
that I had received such calls a couple of times before, too…
Still, I let the
caller continue…
“Mr. Gerald, do
we wish to know more about Jesus Christ, Mother Mary…”
I stopped him…
“My friend, I
have received such calls before and I have informed them this: I am a Christian
and a born Catholic. Jesus is the central force in my life, and between
Him and me, I do not need any middlemen. My faith in Jesus is personal, however
innocent may that seem.”
The call ended…
I remembered the
blogs I had written following such calls earlier. I felt sorry for the state of
Faith: Even God needs a call Centre!
The idea of God is
so simple and childlike. The middlemen have made it so complicated!
Let me quote, here, what Jesus Himself
thought about reaching to Him:
Mark 10:13-16
13. One day, some
parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But, the
disciples scolded them for bothering him.
14. When Jesus saw what’s
happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, ‘Let the children
come to me. Don’t stop them. For, the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are
like these children. 15. I tell you the truth: anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of
God like a child will never enter it. 16. Then, he took the
children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.
Please
crosscheck with Mathew, John and Luke alongside Mark to confirm if it’s true or
false. Else, you may brush me aside saying, “Even a devil can quote the Bible.”
For many of us, Baby
Jesus, Bal Ganesh and Bal Krishna are the cutest of all Gods. Are they all not
the same – the innocent Gods?
God has become a
merchandize… They have set up call centres to sell Him… Sad!
Frankly, Theology
doesn’t go into my head… The simple stories of God do. Like this endearing
story of a little boy, who, one day, stepped out of his house to meet God… and,
so beautifully found Him… sorry, Her… in the park...
Here is the
story… Maybe, I am sharing it for the hundredth time…
Why have we made
God so complicated, so unreachable?
