THE WINNER DOESN'T TAKE IT ALL
“What makes people weak? Their need for validation and recognition,
their need to feel important. Don’t get caught in this trap.”
Paulo Coelho
The
proof of the pudding is in the in the eating.
Meaning, your
theory – the inspiring words, the positive philosophy, and, even, the most sincere
love and trust – yes, in the end, it doesn’t matter much... The final outcome,
the result – it does.
No matter in how
many ways I try to tell a parent, “Your kid will do well in life, please relax,”
– the parent wants the kid to do well in the ‘exams’ in hand...
This means, if
the kid shines in the exams in hand, the kid will shine in life, as well...
I want to see
the result – now... I want to taste the pudding – now... I want the proof.
From my years of
teaching experience, I can safely tell the anxious parents this: Every kid will
have to find his own garden and his own time to bloom. Today, he may not catch
up with his piers... and, that’s perfectly okay... He will, eventually, catch
up with himself...
The validation
form outside – Oh, how addictive that is... If
my kid gets ten on ten, I feel validated...
Just the way,
everything else seems in this world...
To
me, the winning of a Nobel Prize is a huge thing, but not everything. Donald
Trump may be the President (for the second time) of the most prosperous and
powerful nation in this world. But, the way he was craving to get the Nobel
Peace Prize - and, when he didn’t, the way he reacted to it – it makes me feel
sick about this whole human desire – the desperate desire to ‘win’... We see
such behaviour, often, in many kids – and, you and I have never liked such
kids...
Bad behaviour...
Bad losers...
The kid who
learns to ‘figure out’ his life – put all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle along
his life journey – yes, to me, that kid is a winner – whether the world around
him thinks so or not, the kid, certainly does... and should. That’s the kind of
validation the kid has to work for – self-validation...
Sorry Sir, don’t
confuse it with ego or arrogance... It’s self-care, self-trust,
self-confidence.
Looks like, the
world around us is all ready to measure our success, our self-worth, through the
‘results’ – the box-office collection in one single week...
The new edition
of this movie ‘Kantara’, apparently, is doing exactly the same in the box
office... People are busy counting, comparing, analyzing, validating,
certifying – yes, all through how the movie is doing in the box office...
I hear: “Why
not?”
The world has,
always been like that... The proof of the pudding has, always, been is in the
eating...
Show me the
results... For, the winner takes it all...
But, does he?
