I WON'T CRUMBLE WITH YOU IF YOU FALL

Why think of liberation at some future time?

Liberation is in the little things, here and now.”

B. K. S. Iyengar

With every passing moment, and with every breath I take, I become more and more aware, that if I do not find my happiness here and now, I won’t be able to find it anywhere else, and at any other time…

Happiness cannot be postponed… It fizzles out the moment we postpone for a future date.

Some years ago, when this young girl (one of dear ex-students) got married, she really seemed the happiest. Her father, who owned a small grocery store in their vicinity, spent a bomb (a few crores) on his daughter’s wedding, just because the boy’s family wanted it that way, and, for some strange reasons, everyone on girls’ side thought, it’s all worth it.

At hindsight, a small man going to this length, with the misplaced hope, that his daughter would be the happiest at her husband’s place – yes, at hindsight, such a thought sounds very naive, even stupid.

Soon after the marriage, this girl (an MBA), who worked for a reputed company, realized, that she and her family were cheated big time. What followed was a hell – harassment, torture and isolation… The marriage fell apart, and the girl had to come back to her parents… The father, deep in debt, was heartbroken and succumbed to a massive heart-attack, shortly.

Meanwhile, our girl, began to put the pieces of her crumbled life together, one by one. Now, over ten years later, her life seems back on track. I am happy to see her with renewed zest… She seems much happier than she once thought she would be while stepping into her marriage…

Yes, she lost her marriage and dear father. But, mercifully, she did not let herself crumble along…

Two days ago, I happened to see this poster, which she had shared on her social media account…

As I knew her story, I could feel the depth of those words and why she was able to relate to them at hindsight. It took many hard knocks to bring her to the realization, that life was, indeed, beautiful -  extraordinary… Yes, the very life which she had thought to be ordinary – even crumbled.

As it’s, often, said, “Life is what happens to you while you are busy making your other plans.” Life lies right in the middle of all the uncertainties, disappointments, mistakes, regrets, and all the ups and downs… Yes, it lies right in the midst of all the chaos!

So, why wait for ‘one day’ to realize, that life would be beautiful, extraordinary?

As I said at the outset, with every passing moment, and with every breath I take, I become strikingly aware, that Life’s happiness has to be sought right here, right now…

Sadness, pain and hopelessness – yes, LIFE lies right in their midst… if our hearts can learn to create and sing beautiful songs through them… as we can see in this…
