THE FRAGRANCE OF SANDALWOOD

“S ir, I wish you knew, that you are equipping people with life-lessons. Please carry on doing so. Seldom do people get out of their cocoon to realize it.” A parent of one of my students sent the above message to me, some days ago. This woman had lost her husband a few days earlier after a prolonged battle with bone-marrow cancer. Her world, which was already battered, now had collapsed around her. Yet, it seemed she had prepared herself to face this eventuality, and, thus, here she stood - looking straight into the eye of the storm… with amazing grace and dignity. She had stepped out of her house and braced life that she had to face, live and celebrate… Having read some of my blogs, this woman had sent the particular message… I sent this reply: “Ma’am, while what you said makes me feel good about myself, I am also aware of that donkey who carried sandalwood on his back and claimed the fragrance was his.” Was I being humble, or was I just joking? ...

There is, always, something extra-ordinary in the wild, wayside flowers...
