EVERYTHING YOU WANT ALSO WANTS YOU

At the outset of Napoleon Hill’s ‘Think and Grow Rich’, there is this chapter called – ‘Thoughts are Things’. I was barely 20-plus and I was asking incessantly the question: “How do our dreams come true?”. As I have told a million times (not an exaggeration), this book provided me with the answer: “If I think clearly, whatever my mind is able to conceive and believe, I will be able to achieve it.”

And, all that my young-self  wanted to achieve in my life was to teach, write and empower young kids… and, that’s in a setting I would create for myself. I remember, seeing that picture clyster-clearly in my mind… I was piercing, all consuming. And, all the while, I remember believing in it. Yes, my mind was able to conceive this simple dream and believe in it…

The rest was the ancient ‘Law of Attraction’… All doubts and fears dissolved; all support appeared. As it’s said, “When you know what you want, the whole Universe conspires in your favour.” Today, I can stand on any pulpit and shout – “Hey, that’s one-hundred percent true.”

I just did that, last afternoon…

Deepka, my eleventh-standard student, had told me a couple of times - when asked, “Beta, what you want to do after twelfth?” – “Chartered Accountancy.”

Now, doing Chartered Accountancy is not something like Elon Musk’s obsession to build and send rockets to Mars, Uranus and other planets. Yes, it’s something which ordinary Elons like you, Deepka and I can do... Can’t we?

But, once Deepka said, ‘Chartered Accountancy’, I wanted to remind her, that just by wishing, she wouldn’t be able to achieve that. She had to make it into her burning dream… She had to tell the benevolent Universe what she wanted. Then would the Universe conspire in her favour… with all the support and strength she needed.

Just to check, I asked Deepka, last afternoon, once again, “Beta, what do you think most needed to achieve what you want?”

“I need to practice hard, Sir,” Deepka said with all her sincerity.

“Practice, undoubtedly, is very much needed,” I said, “But, can you tell me one single-most thing that would help you reach there?”

Deepka thought for a while and said, earnestly, “What is that, Sir?”

“Your dream,” I said, “It will take care of everything else.”

During last few weeks, when people were going bonkers over ‘Cold Play’ concerts in India, I remembered watching a very endearing and inspiring episode on ‘The Ellen Show... Here it is:

 

Imagine, this lean, school-going 12-year-old, with braces in his mouth, looking straight into the camera lenses and telling what he wanted – ‘Watch out’…

And, the world watched, as the years rolled by, what a sensation Chris Martin could be atop gigantic stages!

Imagine… Yes, Imagine!

 

 

You and I, as I said, are ordinary Elon Musks and ordinary Chris Martins… Our dreams are reasonable, not too lofty as theirs. But, then, the chemistry of achievement – the alchemy – is the same, Sir…

We need to dream… a little big,  that's all.

Jack Canfield says: “Everything you want is out there waiting for you to ask. Everything you want also wants you. But, you have to take action to get it.”
