WHEN A HEART PRAYS WITHOUT WORDS
“In prayer, it’s better to have a heart without words
than words without a
heart.”
John Bunyan
Almost
every day, while speaking on phone or through messages, I say this to people
close to me: “I am praying for you.” Sometimes, “I am praying for your family,”
or “I am praying for your your parents’/children’s health”, or, some other
times, “I am praying for the departed soul,”… and, even this: “I am praying for
my country… leaders… neighbours… enemies,” and so on…
Yes, I say that
so many times a day, every day…
But, I have
never seen myself, after saying that, going down on my knees, closing my eyes,
and really praying to God - “Dear God…. “
Frankly, I have
never, ever done that…
So, what does
this tell?
“I say it just
to please my loved ones… Hollow words?” Or, “Am I the only one feeling like
this?”
Just
early this morning, on receiving an inspiring message (on Forgiveness) from a dear
friend of mine, I said this in my reply:
“Good morning, my
friend… Such a peaceful message, so profound… Thank you. And, I am praying for
your healing.”
Forgiveness,
sure, is crucial for every kind of healing – physical, emotional and spiritual –
I know. But, when I said to my friend, ‘I am praying for your healing’, I was
referring to his physical healing… He has been suffering from an unbearable pain,
with swollen legs, for quite a long time. Despite all tests and medicines, my middle-aged
friend, has difficulty while walking, which is, indeed, painful to watch.
Interestingly, I
had heard this friend of mine saying, so often, the same line, to his loved
ones – “I am praying for you.”
So, the question,
again, comes up: “Did he say it just to please his loved ones… Hollow words?”
I don’t think so…
I think, a
well-meant prayer is a genuine feeling with right intent… what John Bunyan
calls - ‘a heart without words’.
I think, God
hears it first…
