POVERY IS A STATE OF MIND
“The cause of poverty is not scarcity,
it’s fear and small
thinking.”
Alan Cohen
We
find the poorest of the souls, often, sitting on the mightiest of the thrones,
or owning largest ‘wealth’ on this planet…
Poverty is a
state of mind… the state of lack of love and gratitude towards life and people
around…
Be it Donald
Trump, or be it Elon Musk… These guys are nowhere near the treasure called ‘Love’…
The more they crave to sit on the thrones, the less secure they feel. Forget
about their outlandish dreams and promises to make the Nation, or Life, great…
“Enough is
abundance to the wise,” said Euripides… People who are consumed with the
ambition to conquer the world – yes, they will never understand… what ‘enough’
is!
The Bible… Sorry, why do they need help from ‘the Manger and the Cross’ to woo people - to place them on thrones? Jesus Christ, Gautama Buddha, Shirdi ka Sai Baba, Mahatma Gandhi – were they ‘poor’ souls? Did they suffer from insecurity?
There
is this parent of my student… Like every parent, this man (a single parent of his
only son) wants the boy to do well in his 12th-standard Board-Exams
(CBSE). I have been teaching this boy for many months and he seems doing his
best, and very sincerely. In the same manner, I, his teacher, too, have been
doing my best, and very sincerely. Despite this, in the Pre-boards, the boy has
been failing… Understandably, the father is worried. Every second day, this man
has been sending me messages to point to the fact, that ‘his boy’ is failing…
and, each time, I remind him to calm down… Trust the process… trust in his son,
his teacher, and, above all, in God… “He will do well in his finals, Sir… Trust
me… He will do well in life.”
But, then, my
words seem ‘empty’ to this parent… so much so, he is apprehensive of paying off
his son’s balance fees (Even after a dozen gentle reminders and substantial
discount)… The man complains, worries, constantly – but, evades the subject of
his son’s fees…
What should I do
to such a man? Maybe, act a little tough… But, should I stop teaching his son?
Talk ill about his father’s mindset? Insult the boy before his friends?
Come on!
My peace lies in
doing my tasks with my full heart, and clean heart… That’s my ‘dharma’…
It ends there. I am sure, that will, also, serve me as my ‘good karma’…
“Gratitude builds
a bridge to abundance,” Roy Bennett must’ve thought about it well, before he
said it…
