FAT DEMONS WITH SMALL MOUTHS

Greed is not a financial issue. It's a heart issue.”
-      Andy Stanley

“The three most important ways to lead people,” said Albert Schweitzer, “ are by example… by example… by example.”
“Go out and vote, if you really want our Society to change for the better… Vote out the corrupt. Vote in the honest.”
Yes, this was how we all are ‘hoodwinked’ to come out and vote, every time an election comes up – be it National, State or Corporation election. For democracy to survive, elections have to take place. We all have to come out and elect our candidates… These candidates are supposed to lead us. Yes, by example!
And, now, let’s look around us – what an example! What an ideal! What a leadership!
If tomorrow an election is held, will you go out and vote – leave alone for ‘these’ leaders?
They assume we are fools!
Maybe they are right.
We are fools, because we were more of someone’s blind ‘bakths’ than intelligent citizens. Therefore, the danger, always, was looming large… It was coming… So, who do we blame now?
“Power lacks moral or principles,” said Horacio Castellanos Moya, “It only has interests.” When we blindly worship these leaders, we, invariably, choose to be blind to this truth.
Power and greed are very, very dangerous combination. These elected representatives of ours need a real spine to rise above the temptation of power and greed. We need to remember – not our leaders – what Ayn Rand says in her famous power-classic, ‘Atlas Shrugged’: “Power-lust (read as ‘greed’) is a weed that grows only in the vacant lots of an abandoned mind.”
An abandoned mind?

Whose – our leaders’? Or, ours?

I, always, have believed more in myself than in my leaders. I have, always, tried to cleanse my own heart and less of others’… I am aware of the seed of power and greed in my own heart… Hence, I am aware of the futility of my blind worship of any of these leaders…

There were, are and will, always, be a few good leaders. I think that’s enough to help us retain our hope… Such a leader is that proverbial Lion, who leads a hundred sheep, inspiring them to fight like him… Live like him.

The rest of the leaders, with their greed and hunger for power, as Janwillem colourfully described, are those ‘fat demons with small mouths’! Yes, to them, whatever you feed, it is never enough!

Long live ‘Democracy’…

Did you hear ‘Demon-cracy’?
