Presently, Anant Ambani, the younger son of Mr. Mukesh Ambani, is in news for two reasons. First, he is getting married; second, his magnificent project – ‘Vantara’ - for animal rescue has just been unveiled…

‘Vantara’ is a mind-blowing, amazingly planned and executed project, which is spread over 3,000-acre land in Jamnagar. 




Well, Anant is only 28… and, you and I can feel jealous about him for being able to live his dream the way he does. Yes, you and I aren’t born as Ambani’s. So, we can only feel amazed and numbed by the magnitude of the dream this Ambani scion  has been able to live… and, along the way, quietly, feel a lot envious, and even critical…

Not true?

Let it be…

This Post is not about waiting to become an Anant Ambani in order to help the helpless animals… That wait is not only futile, but also a grand excuse… “If only I was rich like Anant Ambani”…

Alibis, Sir… The old-man IF’s!




The Kapoor family, which resides right in the building where my workplace is situated, are unabashed lovers of stray dogs. Without exception, everyone in this family is simply drawn towards the homeless, hungry and innocent strays. A few weeks ago, they have brought home a wounded stray dog to raise him as a pet. The medical care, food, shelter, love and care  – yes, all these are giving this little dog a respectable family-life.

You see, these Kapoor’s are not Ambani’s… Their way of ‘shaking the world’ is by rescuing  just one wounded, helpless stray dog… That’s their ‘Vantara’ project…

And, there in the city of Bengaluru, my own niece, Skyla, and her hubby, Sajesh, have dedicated their entire lives for providing shelter, food, medical care and love to hundreds of animals, especially stary dogs… Skyla and her hubby are highly-educated and they hail from families like yours and mine. They, most certainly, bear in their hearts dreams the way we do – a loving family, a decent house, some children to raise, some good bank balance, and all that. But, like true Missionaries, they, through the NGO (ALAI Rescue) they belong to, have been going about their mission with tremendous grit, perseverance and grace… It has been tough for them; in fact, every day has been an anxious day: “Where will the next meal come from?”

Well, the only difference here is, that the meal in question is for the ‘little tummies’… hundreds of them…

Three days ago, Skyla had posted on FB this:

         1 bag rice = 26 kgs = Rs. 825.

         Raised 50 off 230 kgs… 180 left.

Today is my leap… and, I am thankful to each one of you for your precious wishes and blessings…

As usual, I have never celebrated my birthdays all these years (a personal choice)…

However, today, 29th February, I would like to celebrate in a different way to keep 600+bellies full for March months by raising funds for 180 bags of rice…

It’s a small ask for Rs. 825 from 180 kind people… This directly benefits the little tummies of the rescued animals… an ALAI…

It’s heart-breaking, to say the least!

Yes, we may not be motivated to help the helpless animals the way Skyla and Sajesh, through their NGO, are. Kapoor’s or Anant Ambani – or anyone, anywhere, with such a heart – need lots of gentleness in that heart… Money won’t bring that gentleness… or the motivation…

As Mahatma Gandhi said, we all can ‘shake the world’ in our own gentle way…

So, why wait to become an Anant Ambani, when one bag of rice is just a click away?
