‘Zero tolerance’… Most of us have this public outcry still blaring in our ears… Yes, it’s literally a ‘war cry’ and it’s justly raised by tens and thousands of angry protesters all over the country. The flash point was the horrific gangrape and the consequent death of young Nirbhaya on the night-streets of the national capital. Well, the outburst, particularly by the young, educated citizens of our country, was unprecedented… It had shaken the Central government, Police force and even the Judicial system… Most of us really thought, that the incident would usher in sanity in the cannibals…

But, where?

The cannibals thrive even more rampantly, today…  Who is afraid of the stringent laws? Leave alone the fear of God…

So much for the zero tolerance…



The feudal mindset… I think, this is responsible for the sad plight as to  why being raped seems more shameful than being a rapist…

That’s why, despite all the outcry, despite the rapid action, fast-track courts and the capital punishment – the cannibals still wander along with their acts without any shame, and without any fear…

I am an incorrigible optimist… I believe in the truth, that despite these gory incidents, this world has more light than darkness. At the same time, I am quite apprehensive about our selective outrage. Our outrage should be identical – whether these brute acts take place in in a Kolkata hospital or a Badlapur school, whether the victim is a minor or a major, whether the culprit is a Hindu, a Muslim or a beast… Yes, our hearts should bleed in equal measure for every victim…

You see, a polarized/prejudiced mind is as dangerous as a feudal mind!

In my view, one of the most-gripping movies on the subject is Shoojit Sirkar’s ‘PINK’. During our Personality Development sessions, I, often, tell our young boys and girls to watch this movie. I am reminded of this film amidst the depressing news that now comes hitting like a tornedo…








When will it all end?

When will we all bleed alike for every rape victim… and get angry alike at every rapist?

Not till we do not have to wonder: “Why it is more shameful to be raped than to be a rapist…”

Let me repeat: A polarized mind is as dangerous as a feudal mind…
