ILLUSION OF SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS

Image
“Relax… Nothing’s missing.” Maxime Legace   T he other day, my son said this: “Dad, I do not know if it’s your quote, but I find sense in it: ‘Wherever you go, you carry yourself’.” My quote? Come on boy! I am too small a man for ‘inventing’ such a profound wisdom. But, I am big enough to realize how age-old and ageless that wisdom is!  I have been telling everyone, that it’s a Zen quote. But, by Zen, if we mean wisdom, let Heavens take the credit… We humans, here, are too small beings to claim the copyright for such a priceless wisdom… REFLECTION: If we are unable to find success and happiness right here, right now, right with whatever we have… then, no matter where we will go, when we will go, and what we will have, success and happiness will only be illusive! THE MOON AND THE ELEPHANT LEAVE THE BARKING DOGS ALONE

Image
O ne afternoon, I heard one of our college lecturers blasting at some students in our class: “Let the dogs bark at the Moon; but, the Moon will keep shining.” A group of students had complained to the Principal against this upright lecturer… The students wanted him to be like other lecturers; they wanted to have their way. But, the Principal, who was extremely proud of this lecturer, would not interfere… He gave a dressing-down to these boys and asked them to mend their ways. So, that afternoon, when this lecturer had come to our class, he looked at the boys point-blank, and blasted, “Let the dogs bark at the Moon; but, the Moon will keep shining.” As the legend goes, the dogs have some weird affinity with the Moon… On a Full-Moon night, they all come out, look up at the Moon… and they keep barking… Only the dogs know why they do it and what they want to say! Maybe, they see the reflection of another dog – the spirit of their ancestors – in the Full Mo...

CAN WE 'STILL' OUR MIND ON OUR OWN?

Image
A couple of days ago, my wife and I attended a wedding reception. It was in the open air and it was organized on a grand scale. Around 11.in the night, guests were still pouring in while we were leaving… It suddenly started drizzling… “Oh, God, how will they manage it, if it rains heavily?” I thought in my mind… Luckily, the drizzle stopped! It was not ‘my’ party. I was just a guest and my wife and I had even done with our dinner. So, if it all someone had to ‘worry’ it was the hosts and not me… Still, the thought consumed me for a while… A nd, yesterday was the coveted – and hyped-up-and-spiced-up – India-Pakistan cricket match in England. The match was to start late in the afternoon (Indian time). In our morning Tai Chi class, I heard some talking about the terror attack in London and the impact it might have on the match. “There is probability of the match getting cancelled due to security reasons,” one of them told emphatically. But, in the afternoon, the match d...
