LETTING KARMA DO THE DIRTY WORK
“There are two types of seeds in the mind:
those that create anger, fear, frustration, jealousy,
hatred
and those that create love, compassion, equanimity and
joy.
Spirituality is germination and sprouting of the second
group
and transforming the first group.”
― Amit Ray
All angry people do not hate or seek revenge.
Hatred and revenge come from extreme insecurity and fear. On this planet, I
think, almost all of us experience and express anger in some degree or the
other. But, hatred and revenge – yes, only a small segment of mankind has them.
That is a good news!
I look to my immediately surroundings… Look
at the messages we receive on social media or the news reports… The stories of
hate and revenge are there, but not many compared to stories of love,
compassion and goodness.
Why look outside… a look inside me reveals
that I have ample of anger… But, traces of hatred and revenge are almost not
there. My anger hasn’t made me a cruel human being… Yes, at times, it has made
me feel lonely and remorseful. I have regretted and come out refreshed,
cleansed… stronger and mature. I have apologized sincerely and I have built
deeper friendships…
So, in my view, anger is okay, as long as it
helps me make amends and become a better human being… I think, it takes great
amount of strength to recognize the presence of anger in us, and it takes even
more strength to transmute our anger into something sublime…
But, hatred and revenge are deadly enemies
of self. While anger can be our ally in self-growth, hatred and revenge are
self-destroying forces…
Today, a friend of mine sent this very
popular message:
“Strong people do not seek revenge;
they move on and let karma do the dirty work.”
Interestingly, the message was superimposed
over the picture of Dwayne Johnson (‘The Rock’), the popular wrestler and
actor.
Is Dwayne Johnson a strong man?
The seeds of our mental strength are also the
seeds of our spiritual strength. As Amit Ray says, they need to be sown consciously…
and, the early they are sown, the longer will be the harvest. Therefore, little
kids, who demonstrate anger, are to be guided to grow up as fine human beings
without getting consumed by their anger… They need to be guided to show more
love, compassion, forgiveness and forbearance.
Hatred and revenge are self-destructive.
They are signs of weakness… a spiritual bankruptcy. As the popular message says,
strong people do not seek revenge; they move on and let Karma do the dirty
work.
