THE SEA IS SAME FOR ALL, BUT...
“Whatever we perceive
as good in the world
has always endured, and it always will.”
Carmen Agra Deedy
Last
evening, while returning home, I met a stranger. Though I just said, he was a ‘stranger’ to me,
I wasn’t a ‘stranger’ to him. “I read your blogs regularly, though you do not know
me,” he said enthusiastically, “I look forward to read them every time... How
do you find your topics, the simple but touching stories?”
Obviously, I
felt nice on what I had just heard from a person, who, without my knowledge,
was reading what I have been writing, almost every day. I had to answer his
question: “How do you find your topics, the simple but touching stories?”
Well, I do not
know whether or not my answer to this question was what I will be writing in this Post, today...
We
all step out into the same world, each day... and we only find what we all are
looking for. I do not know what you were looking for in the world outside as
you stepped out of your house, this morning. But, I know what I was looking for:
a simple story to tell... which contained the seeds of goodness to cheer my soul
and to cheer a few around me, if possible. That’s all... I did not want this
day to just slip by without it doing that for me... Yes, I look for this. I see
the Sun and the sky above, feel the breeze and the earth beneath my feet, and look
for a story in them... something extraordinary in the ordinary – yes, what,
otherwise, would have gone without a second glance...
The stranger, by
the way, is looking for the simple stories every day... He finds them
everywhere he is looking for, including in my Posts... That’s how you and I go
about finding the enchanting stories to warm up our hearts... Don’t we all?
On the other
hand, if we go about looking for stories to dampen our hearts – the ones filled
with conspiracies, prejudice, distrust, hatred and fear – let’s be assured: we
will find them in abundance there outside... yes, in the same world where some
of us find enchanting, empowering stories...
In fact, the
stranger, who I met last evening and our brief interaction, would have simply slipped by,
but for a rare Good Morning message from a dear friend of mine, this morning.
This friend seldom sends any Good Morning or Good Night messages, but does share,
occasionally, something she feels worth sharing. Here is the one she had shared,
this morning:
Is the sea, that
we step into, same for each one of us? If it is, what we find there cannot be
different from what we are looking for there... To tell you the truth, the
desire to wet our feet in the sea... read that again... the simple desire to
wet our feet along the shore... yes, it is enough to make our each day a
blessed one...
