WHEN WILL YOU TEACH ME HOW TO DO WEFAST?
“Age is an issue of mind over matter.
If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
Mark Twain
When American writer, essayist and humourist, Mark Twain, lived, he must’ve imagined, that a motor car, rail engine, telegram, a steam ship and some more technical innovations were a near possibilities. But, internet, mobile phones, zoom and its cousins, social media, YouTube, Uber and Olas, Swiggy and Zomatoes, Wefast (now Borzo) and its cousins, remotely-performed robotic surgeries, and, above all, the all-conquering AI – yes, the great Mark Twain, by any stretch of his wise, wild imagination, must’ve never thought, that they would soon be coming to ‘disrupt’ human life...
Did I say, ‘disrupt’?
Yes, I did...
A week ago, my wife and I were to visit our elderly uncle and aunt who we lived in faraway suburbs. We had organized some delicious food to carry and have lunch together at their place. But, as we were about to book an Uber to proceed to their place, we received a call, saying uncle’s health had suddenly worsened and he was being taken to a doctor...
The food had to wait... Later that day, when things returned to normalcy, my wife arranged to deliver the food to the residence of our uncle and aunty through Wefast (now, Borzo). When the food arrived at their place shortly, aunty was amazed. “When will you teach me how to do Wefast?” she asked my wife, sincerely.
Actually, for her age, aunty is quite good at using various Apps. But, this one, she wasn’t familiar with. Last Sunday, when we visited their house, aunty, again, requested my wife to teach her how to use that App. It hardly took a minute or two for our elderly aunty to master that new life skill...
Some days before this incident, I was listening to an expert on a Podcast. He was talking about how to live an active, long life. Particularly, he was talking about dealing with dementia and how to keep the mind alert and kicking...
When our aunty so sincerely wanted to learn one more useful skill, I remembered the expert’s advice on the Pod cast...
“Wow, aunty is taking good care of her mind,” I smiled and remembered what Douglas McArthur said:
“Age wrinkles the body; quitting wrinkles the soul.”
Truly, Sir, we are not old as long as we are learning.
