IF YOU HAVE HOPE, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING

“Either you vegetate and look out of a window; or you activate and try to effect change.” Christopher Reeve   M y wife and I have watched on last two Sundays, back-to-back, two out-of-this-world movies – ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ and ‘Superman’. You see, it’s best to get lost in these fantasy worlds, now and then, knowing very well, that neither the dinosaurs nor the Superman live in this ‘real world’. But, when you wear those dark 3-D glasses and transport yourself into the fantasy worlds – yes, yes, yes, it can be the best medicine for  your worried and wounded souls… The Jurassic Park and the Superman movies we had watched years ago – for the first time – and, now, these latest ones – yes, they did succeed in captivating our hearts. May they continue to do so for centuries to come… The child in me doesn’t want to grow up… That’s something nice, na? WHAT IS A HERO?

“Heroes are people who rise to the occasion and slip quietly away.” -      Tom Brokaw C hristopher Reeve, who became famous for playing Superman, was a hero for millions of his movie fans. He possessed an exceptionally-chiseled body. He played adventure sports and was passionate about acting. In 1978, when the first Superman movie was released, he was only 26. Since then, it was hard for most of his fans to disassociate him from that hallowed position of being a ‘hero’… ‘The Superman’! Then, the tragedy struck Reeve in 1995 (He was 43) while he was participating in a horse-riding competition. He was thrown off and the grave spine-injury left him paralyzed for rest of his life! ‘The rest of Reeve’s life’ means only nine years. For, he died at the age of 52! But, this life of Christopher Reeve on the wheel-chair, with the support of a portable ventilator, was a more heroic one than his life as a celluloid Superman. Reev...
