WHO KNOW YOU THE LEAST JUDGE YOU THE MOST

“It’s always the ones who know the least about you

who judge you the most.”

There seems to be an unexplainable thrill in gossiping about other people’s lives… I mean, their private lives. It’s a strange thrill, as if like an orgasm… Sorry for being a bit colourful, here!

In one of our High School lessons, we had an interesting lesson… It was one of the essays of A. G. Gardiner… It’s titled ‘On Keyhole Morals’. It dealt with our innate and insatiable curiosity to know what is happening in other people’s private lives… Yes, to see it, secretly, through the keyholes of their rooms!

And, right since my childhood days, I would hear the Priests in church trying to drill into our little skulls what Jesus had said, “Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eyes, but fail to see a log in your own?” …

“You hypocrites!” We still assume, that Jesus called the Pharisees of His time with that blunt expression… We think, hypocrites live no longer, today!

Apparently, the young Congress leader from Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot, has revealed a few days ago, that his marital status as ‘Divorced’. Bassss! The world around us, suddenly, seems woken up to something ‘earth-shattering’! All and sundry – of course, who know the least about poor fellow, Sachin Pilot - started creating videos, writing stories, holding debates, everywhere and everyday… You see, gossiping need not be behind someone’s back, anymore… It can be up front, unashamed!

Besides Jesus’s warning to hypocrites, the old proverb does it, too: “Those who live in their glass houses, should not throw stones at others’”

But, then, we all do… We assume, that do not live in our glass houses… We, also, assume, that we aren’t those hypocrites!

Every time we judge someone else, what we are, actually, doing is: we are revealing an unhealed part of ourselves… The Psychologists will tell us about this truth.

Thus, when this truth dawns upon us, we will, perhaps, stop peeping through the keyholes of others’ cabins, and getting some strange thrills…

A very old saying puts it like this:

“Once you awaken, you will have no interest in judging

those who sleep.”
