WHEN OUR HOBBIES TURN INTO OUR PROFESSIONS

Pic.: Jhuma Mukherjee “The most expensive hobby a rich man could have is a boat, and the second most expensive hobby he could have is a very old house.” - Barbara Corcoran L ife without our hobbies would have been very boring for each one of us. And, I think, when our hobbies turn into our professions, life would be a blessed one! The question that comes up here is: If our hobbies become our professions, won’t life, soon, become boring and dull? After all, hobbies are those activities which are not inspired by any need to earn or gain, any compulsion or force... So, won’t our professions, eventually, turn into the same old run-of-the-mill drudgeries? The answer can be both ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. ‘Yes’ because, many of us do turn our hobbies into our professions... and, soon, get lured by the money, fame and power that come along. Then, what remains in our profession are the hardcore, and hard-nosed business and negotiation, shrewd maneuve...

WHO KNOWS MY STORY BEST?

I have just returned from my session with the BMS kids in the Mumbai College which I spoke about in my today’s morning post.  Anupam had invited me to conduct it, and I had agreed, without even my second thought. Anupam wanted me to make these kids ponder over the questions: How I chose what I did? Have I chosen BMS by a conscious choice or by default? Is BMS my choice or my parents’? HILLS AND DEMONS

I have heard this: Some men, when they drink, behave like small children… The child in them comes out. And, some men, when they drink, behave like demons… Yes, the demon in them comes out.  I have also heard this: Writing needs inspiration… You need to be intoxicated with it. I know it is true… For, whenever I am ‘intoxicated’ to write, The stars cease to be stars and the hills cease to be hills! The waves of the ocean and the waves of the soul All get mixed up… God becomes a human and man becomes a God… Age seeks its shelter in a young heart… And a young heart yearns before me:  “Dear, can I watch you… just watch you, all my life?”  I have heard: You can not be inspired and dead, at the same time!
