AM I FIT FOR THE KINGDOM?

Image
“No one, who puts his hand to the plow and looks back, Is fit for the Kingdom of God.” What did Jesus Christ Want to convey by these words? Where is this ‘Kingdom of God’? Here on earth… or, hereafter?   Every morning, when I rise, And every night when I retire, I, often, think on these words of Jesus. A hundred regrets, a hundred complaints, A hundred fears and a hundred denials… Yes, every day, I have this challenge from Jesus Christ: “My son, you have a choice,” I hear Him telling me: “To look back with regret, blame and anger… Or, to step out with your ‘plow’ into the new Sun With trust, gratitude and hope.” I hear Him saying: “Yes my son, you can live in Self-defeating denials Or, soar in uplifting acceptance; You can look back And be consumed by the ‘Pillar of Fire’… Or, you can look forward To the glory of God’s Kingdom.” I have picked the ‘Plow’...

A FIGHT WITHOUT A FIGHT

Image
One of my most favourite movies is Bruce Lee’s ‘Enter the Dragon’.  I first watched this Martial Arts movie when I was a college kid in Mangalore. Later, I have watched this classic, countless times, both on big and small screens. Every year, I show this movie to our students of ‘Personality Development’ programme. Yes, to all kids – young and little, all. And, they all love it. Now, why I love this movie so much and why our kids do… and why you do – the reasons can be varied. I have my own, and many. One reason is here, and I wish to share it with you, in this post, this morning. The scene is in a boat that is ferrying our three famous Martial Arts contestants, Bruce Lee, John Saxon, and Jim Kelly – who are all strangers, so far, in the movie – to the Mafia king, Han’s island. It is a typical crowded boat, packed with the local Chinese men, women and little kids. There are many local vendors with their baskets of fruits and ve...

AS THE SILENCE BEHELD...

Image
A s the music played, As the breeze danced,  As the silence beheld, As the eyes welled, As the the touch spoke,  As the heart stopped, As the souls met... I heard this from my heart's valleys: The fear should go… The lust should go… The clinging should go… The Terms should go, The blame should go, The guilt should go, The rage should go, The waiting should go, The hoping should go…  Then, everything came to a standstill! I am your friend… I behold! I behold!  I behold!... I said. GERALD D'CUNHA Pic.: Vivek D'Cunha

BEING SIMPLE

Image
Some one told me yesterday this: “Gerry, the thing I admire the most about you is, that you are unbelievably simple.” I did feel good when I heard this.  Because ‘Simplicity’ is a value I cherish, it reflects in whatever I do in my life. But, after this person had left, I wondered for a while: “What he meant by ‘Simplicity’?” I really wished, I could I ask this person! A few things come before me when I think about this subject. Yes, these ‘few things’ come to me so naturally, without any effort… and, these things come from my heart… and I feel strong when I go by them. I would like to list them down, here. I E XPRESS MY FEELINGS:   Yes, I do express my feelings openly, frankly and genuinely. If I am happy because of some person’s words or gesture, I would quickly, and with all my gratitude, let the other person know how happy I am because of this person’s words or gesture. There is no calculation needed before I ...

THE AWAKENING IN THE MARKET...

Image
Mulla Narsuddin's wife hated his donkey.  "I don't want that good-for-nothing Ass in my house... Sell him in the market, or dump him in a pond... But, out he must be, before the Sun, tomorrow, goes down," one night, Mulla's wife gave the ultimatum to her husband.  Mulla, somehow, had a great love for his donkey, though, he too knew that the lazy animal did nothing but, hogging and sleeping, all day long. He still loved his donkey... and, the thought of living without his donkey made him very uncomfortable. So much so, he would live without his wife, but not his donkey! But then, Mulla had no courage to defy his wife's order. So, the next morning, he took his donkey and proceeded to the market place to sell the animal at the auction. In the evening, when Mulla returned home, his wife was quite relieved to see a very excited man.  "So?" the lady asked Mulla. "I am very happy, darling," ...

THERE IS A CLOSENESS...

Image
Why is this desire in me To possess things those are not mine? Why can’t I look at a Rainbow, Fully appreciate its glory… And then, let it just pass? Why is this desire in me To make a Rainbow, my own? W hen roses bloom in my garden, When they grow from their infancy to ripe age, And they pass when the time comes… Yes, when all this happens in my garden, There is a beauty of its own… Joy of its own… Freedom of its own! The Heavens want me to just behold this spectacle… A ll beautiful things Are supposed to go… Like a falling Star, Like a hiding Moon, Like a dipping Sun… There is a beauty in everything that passes… Everything that is destined to go… Everything that is supposed To Be! W hy do I desire To hear from someone: “Dear, you are amazing”? Or, “Dear, I love you”? I am not an ‘amazing soul’ Because someone tells me so… I am amazing, Because, I value what The other person say...

MY BIG KIDS...

Image
Really loved to read today’s blog, Sir. Two days back, my T.Y. B’Com student, Sweety, commented on my blog. I had written about two of my very close friends, Tanish and Yommie… nine-year-old chaddi buddies. And, Sweety had loved it. I had sent a quick reply to her: Thank u Sweety... Glad u liked this 'kid-stuff'! My next post will be on 'big kids'... Sweety and her gang!!! Love, Sir. This morning, there was this rejoinder from this young lady:  Hahahaha thank you so much sir!!!  It would be my pleasure  if you write something   about me and my mischiefs… because, in your stories, there is always a part which tells what you experienced or felt.  I would love to know that through the blog. SWEETY. My response to Sweety’s wish was instant. Madam, I will write today, I promise! Thanks for reading and trusting in what I write! ...

SOMETIMES...

Image
When I am angry,  I know I should not speak. But then, sometimes, I do. And I feel bad about me, my action, my anger... My loss of self-control. Then, I become more angry... This time around,  With my own burning soul! When I am afraid, I know I should not dream about my future. But then, sometimes, I do. And I feel anxious about my tomorrows... Then, I become more afraid... This time around,  About the prophesy  That I have just fulfilled on my own! When I am sad, I know I  should not blame. But then, sometimes, I do. And I feel even sadder about my lost world. Then, I become more hurt and feel more sorrowful... This time around,  About the world that I could have just saved! When I am happy, I know I should be grateful. But then, sometimes, I don't. And I feel the disturbing emptiness in my heart. I become more restless... This time around,   About the Guardian Angel  That my Pride has just...

THE SEEDS OF CONFIDENCE...

Image
“ Can we come in, sir,” I hear the chorus from my back. I know whose it is! So, I say, “No, you can not.” “We have already come in,” they both announce, knowing my ‘No’ very well. “Then, why do you ask my permission, you naughty boys? You can directly come inside, no?” I ask them sounding intrigued. “No, no… Our Miss tells us that it is not good manners… We should ask before we enter anyone’s place, ‘Can we come in?’…” both tell me. “May I come in,” I gently pull Tanish’s nose, “Not Can I come in.” “Our Miss says ‘Can I come in’,” Yommie stands by his chaddi buddy. “You like your Miss, darling?” I caress little Yommie’s head. “Yes sir, she is sooo nice!” the chorus is sooo sweet! “So, tell me what is up… What is special today?” I drop my work to give them all my ears. “This is my project,” Tanish places before me his latest ‘Magnum Opus’. “Wow, great work, my dear,” I rub the...
