GOD IN THE COOKING POT

Time to pause…

Time to press the re-set button…

Time to reflect…

Time to slowdown…

Yes, as Charles Dickens opened his famous tale – ‘The Tale of Two Cities’ – these are the best of times and these are the worst of times. And, as I quoted Mark Twain, in my last Post, “There is no security in life, there is only opportunity.”

Maybe, the Poet wanted to say, “There are only ‘opportunists’!”

And, I am already hearing the voices of protest: “What’s wrong with that – i.e., in being ‘opportunists’ in these hard times?”

You see, Life has to go on… and we have to somehow survive. How many days can one sit at home doing nothing… Sorry, earning nothing? Yes, a guy like me, who always depended on a classroom set up to teach my students, now, is desperate to find an alternative method of teaching – online, sitting at home. Well, for me, it may be an ‘alternative method’; but, not to those who had been doing through that route for years. Now, suddenly, those guys seem to be facing a tough competition!

It’s nice when you have the comfort of some financial cushion in times like these. But, if you do not know how to manage with your next meal, what kind of pause will you give, and what kind of re-set button will you press? What will you reflect upon?

So, all this wonderful spiritual-advice – of slowing down to reflect, of pausing to re-set – is good only for some of us who have the comfort – sorry, the ‘luxury’ – of sitting at home with our ‘cushions’. For a poor soul, ‘the God, always lies in his cooking pot’!

Was it not Swami Vivekananda who said this?

I do not know, what this pausing and re-setting, slowing down and reflecting are all about. The more I try to, the more restless I become to find an alternative method of doing the same-old things – of earning, of growing, of making it ‘big’, all over again…

The great Pendulum doesn’t seem to care about the great Pandemic… At least, that’s what it appears. Like everyone else, I, too, hear me asking, desperately: “When will I be able to go out?”

So much for the pause and re-set button… So much for slowing down to reflect!

Sitting at home is the newest luxury, Sir…

The cooking pot is the newest God!
