THE VIRUS AND THE OPIUM
“The
two most common elements in the Universe
are
hydrogen and stupidity.”
Harian
Ellison
The
essence of every religion is the essence of Life; and, that’s love and
brotherhood. It’s the common belief, that we all are the children of the same
God – the same Creator… That, we are not even a speck in the vast Universe He
has created… too, too, too small and insignificant!
Hence, the fact
that I am a Christian – and a Roman Catholic in that – is too insignificant. If
that thought – that, I am a Christian - makes me feel different – superior to
others – then, my religion is a dead religion… It’s dark and dangerous!
Self-importance
is the opposite of the religious essence of Love and brotherhood. If my
religion makes me feel ‘different’ – superior to others – then, the God I
worship must be a False God!
Look at the
stupidity to which some of us have lowered ourselves to, now… Yes, even at this
time, when the whole world has been brought on its knees! Some of us are still
caught up in the same-old trap of religious prejudice and discrimination. Let’s
ask for a moment: From where does such a pathetic outlook stem?
Unless we truly believe,
that our religious faith is superior and the God we worship is above all other Gods, and,
unless, we truly believe, that people who follow other faiths and worship
differently are all sub-humans, yes, unless we don such a crooked attitude, it’s
not possible for us to hate our fellow-humans.
Whoever said “Religion
is an opium”, he must’ve observed this stupidity… and said what he did.
When we witness
the arrogance with which some of us still choose to hate and discriminate our
fellow-humans because of their religion, one point becomes clear: No pandemic or virus can save us from our
stupidity. We may survive the pandemic; but, we will continue to behave in the
same-old way – high on our opium!
In the middle of
the on-going hate-mongering, I have received these two thought-provoking messages. And, they seem
to tell a lot…
Yes, despite a
dozen Holy Books we claim to be carrying on our backs, we still remain who we
are – ‘Donkeys’!
And, even
though, we know who owns this land we live on, we still assume, that we have
the authority to decide who should live here and who shouldn’t!
And when Corona
comes, we pray: ‘Corona go’!
