THE POWER OF A SINGLE PROMISE
“The
way you do small things
is
the way you do all things.”

“Why
bad things happen to good people?" Well, in my view, this is not a good
question. We shall never get an answer to this question… Never, ever.
One of my
favourite Gospel singers and songwriters is Dottie Rambo. I just love her lyrics
and, of course, singing. She and her whole family devoted their lives singing
glory to God… Then one day, during one of her successful tours, the bus
carrying her and her group met with an accident (due to bad weather condition).
While many got badly injured in this accident, the only person who lost her life
was Dottie!
“Of all the
people, why Dottie, God?”
I spend a lot of
time listening to Dottie’s songs (sung by several other singers, too). Last
afternoon, while listening to one of her touching songs, ‘Too Much to Gain, to
Lose’, I heard her brother say this: “We don’t understand some of these things….”
That’s all you
and I, too, can console ourselves with while bad things happen to us despite
doing all the good things in our lives: “We don’t understand some of these
things”… This will help us to continue doing the good things…
Some
weeks ago, I had visited a senior citizen. He has been one of the most
energetic, zestful and affectionate gentlemen I have known. But, he has been
feeling extremely low during last couple of years… The business was not doing well,
and people who he had trusted had deceived him. Despite doing good deeds all
his life, he was heartbroken to see things not going well with him… It had taken
toll on his body and mind, both…
When I visited
him, I did my bit to explain to this gentle soul, as to why it’s important to
all of us to say what Dottie’s brother was saying: “We don’t understand some of
these things”… I had told him this, “Sir, let’s keep doing our good deeds,
however small they seem to be… and let’s not ask, ‘Why bad things happen to
good people?’”
That morning, the
gentleman had said to me: “Thank you for visiting me… I promise you, that I
shall greet you ‘Good Morning’ every day, right from tomorrow.”
Many weeks have rolled
by… Not a single morning has passed without a greeting from this elderly
gentleman, early in the morning: “Good Morning Sir ji… God Bless you.”
Marty Rubin
says: “A single breath is all that separates life from death.”
Let me add this:
‘With that breath, a single promise to live with zest, too’…
