THE PROOF, THAT LIFE GOES ON... FRESH, RENEWED
“Perhaps, the earth
could teach us…
everything would
seem dead; then, be alive.”
Pablo Neruda
All
of a sudden, since yesterday, I have been getting on my phone some old funny scenes
from the popular TV show of the fifties – ‘I Love Lucy’. I don’t know how this ‘feeding
things’ happen on our phones; but, sometimes, they happen for the right reason…
I remembered my
wife the moment I heard ‘I Love Lucy’. For, she really, really loved Lucy and her
hilarious escapades in her New York middle-class, rented apartment. Well, when
the ‘I Love Lucy’ show was first aired in America (CBS) from 1951 to 1957, I
wasn’t even born. And, my wife was born more than a decade later. The show
began to be aired on our glorious B & W DD during the eighties, when my
wife was a school girl… She just loved Lucy!
Thus, this morning, the first thing I did was to tell my wife about her favourite Lucy… “Show me, show me,” she jumped. I showed her some scenes, and my wife was jumping… Her worry about her sugar-level fluctuations seemed to have disappeared and, a clean laughter from her belly seemed to serve as the best medicine for every ailment – of the body, mind and the spirit…
Laughter
has been robbed from our lives… Simple joy and hope seem to have been
complicated. Yes, age, ailment, struggles, disappointments etc., come to
eclipse our hearts…
A
dear friend of mine, who lives in the UK, had her ailing, elderly parents back
home here. For many years, she tried her best to give her parents the best love and
care… It was tough on her to leave her own family, including her two girls, and
come home so frequently to handle her parents’ hospitalization and other
issues. Finally, in a span of couple of months, both parents passed away… But,
both parents had to endure a great deal of suffering…
By the time my
friend went back to her husband and children, she was drained of her energy and
spirit. For some days, she stopped interacting with others, and we wondered, if
she was okay…
Two days ago, my
friend sent these pictures of the fresh produce of her lush-green orchard, with
the line: “Sending you homegrown organic produce”…
I was relieved
to hear from my friend and see those pictures. I instantly wrote to her:
“That’s the
proof, my friend… that, Life goes on – fresh, renewed.”
Then,
yesterday, another friend of mine (82), who lives in the US wrote to me:
“Yesterday, I
wanted to photoshop my great granddaughter’s recent photo instead of asking the
tech-savvy people at home, I navigated, played with the phone and, finally, did
a fairly decent job of it. Felt immensely proud. And, this morning, I read your
blog about spreading the wings. Now, I know, that even at the age of 82, I can
still fly… I only have to spread my wings and try. Thanks friend.”
David Bowie
says:
“It’s amazing how a new child can refocus one’s direction,
seconds after its birth…
Everything falls
into a feeling of rightness.”
God
has given us the season of ‘Spring’ not without a reason… What looks like the
end is only a new beginning… The Nature is the proof… the newborn is the proof…
Yes, even I love
Lucy… For, I love to watch the laughter Lucy causes
in my wife’s belly…
