WHEN YOU LOSE YOUR WAY IN THE FOG
“A story, to me,
means a plot
where there is some
surprise.
Because, this is how
life is – full of surprises.”
Isaac Bashevis Singer
“Be careful”… “Take care”… “Sambhalke”… these
and many similar expressions have become a part of our daily vocabulary. Invariably,
we use all of them to express our love, care
and concern for our loved ones.
But, every day, as we step out into this world, you and I
know, that we have these two options before us: We can either step out
harbouring more trust and love in our hearts, or more distrust and hate. Thus,
we have a choice - either to stretch our two hands in embrace, or cross them
tightly against our chests in self-protection…
Mercifully, knowing fully well, that this world and its
people aren’t perfect, most of us do choose to walk out with our two hands stretched
in embrace… harbouring more trust and fear in our hearts…
Yes, everybody out there is not a crook – he or she is not
there conspiring against us, trying to cheat and loot us… The Law of Average doesn’t allow us to believe in those conspiracy theories, that the
world outside is only dark…
Each day comes with surprises – some pleasant
and some unpleasant. Yesterday, for example, an overseas friend of mine pleasantly
surprised us by sending an amazing cake to our place. It was to say ‘Thank you’
for something my wife and I had done to her organically… just out of love and
care. Cake was a healthy one – made of whole wheat and organic jaggery, which
my wife, son and I thoroughly relished. We thanked our overseas friend and
expressed our joy… It was at noon…
And, at night, this overseas friend, alerted me about the
hacking of my Instagram account by someone who had created a fake account using my photo and the
name… Alongside this overseas friend, many other friends of mine alerted me,
too. The ‘crook’ was asking them to transfer some money. Well, mercifully, no
one did. My son helped me to take immediate action to safeguard myself and report
to the social media platform. I, also, promptly alerted all my FB and Insta
friends…
So far so good…
Yes, Sir, the world outside does have some ‘crooks’. But, for every crook
outside, there are a thousand ‘angels’ as well. So, I left my house, this
morning, with that simple, unshakeable trust tucked in my bosoms… hoping to
meet outside more angels than crooks… with my two hands stretched in embrace
rather than crossed tightly against my chest in distrust and fear…
Now and then, this world may seem foggy, and we may seem
to be lost… But, walking through the occasional fog calls for our simple
trust and courage. Mehmet Murat Iladan assures us:
“Sometimes, when you
lose your way in the fog,
you end up in a
beautiful place…
Don’t be afraid of
getting lost.”
