THE TIMELESS LAW OF COMPENSATION
“The dream in your heart may be bigger than
the environment in which you find yourself.”
Darren Hardy
I
came
to know about Darren Hardy’s book – ‘The Compound Effect’ – while searching for
an appropriate quote for today’s blog. You see, my world has been revolving
around the young college kids… for nearly five decades that is. Yes, I started teaching
while I was in my first-year B. Com… and, once I made that conscious choice to
become a good teacher and a good writer, the rest happened around that robust
choice…
I stayed committed
and consistent throughout. There were bleak times when I did worry about my
future… “Did I make the right choice?”… Yes, this question has come to hit me
hard countless times, making my heart shiver. But, then, that solitary choice
which I made while still in college – yes, at the end of the day, it has helped
me stay faithful to my commitment, stay consistent… and, come this far.
So, when I came across
a good review on Darren Hardy’s book – ‘The Compound Effect’ – I fondly remembered reading the inspiring essay –
‘Compensation’ - by R. W. Emerson. For
this, I thank Napoleon Hill and his powerful books - ‘Think and Grow Rich’ and ‘The
Law of Success’. Napoleon Hill heavily delves on Emerson’s essay on ‘Compensation’
and explains how Nature pays us through compound interest when we stay
committed and consistent in our efforts.
When I was
introduced by Napoleon Hill to Emerson’s Law of Compensation, I was in my early
twenties, and I was jobless and hungry in this big city I had just migrated to.
But, I was incessantly searching for a way to ‘succeed’ … I wanted to know how
to translate my dream (of becoming a good teacher and a writer) into a reality…
And, this early
morning, when I came across some powerful quotes from Darren Hardy’s book – ‘The
Compound Effect’ – I heard my heart echoing: “How true that is!”
“It’s not the big things
that add up in the end; it’s the hundreds, thousands, or millions of little things
that separate the ordinary from the extraordinary.”
Today, after
five decades, I know how my conscious, daily choices – those hundreds,
thousands, or millions of little things - have added up – yes, compounded – to make
me feel ‘worthwhile’ in life…
Is that ‘Success’
?
Yes, Sir… To me, that is.
Those little
things, done with commitment, consistency and passion – have compounding effect…
That’s the timeless
Law of Compensation…
