YES, THE TIME COMES...
In life, we don’t do ‘all things’ with our full heart; only some things we do…and, many things we don’t!
So, whenever I see a student of mine not
interested in studies, and all my persuasions and pressures only fall on some
thick skins, I conclude in my mind: “Maybe, they are not cut for ‘these’ studies…
Maybe, there is something else calling!”
Trust me, I have seen even the finest, the most
educated, parents finding it difficult in this area to deal with their reluctant
children. Yes, they see their persuasions and pressures yielding no results… I,
as a teacher – and despite all my so-called motivational talks and writings – too,
have been finding it difficult to ignite thirst in a reluctant heart…
But, I am not complaining; I am not bitter or
pessimistic about the ‘ones whose hearts aren’t just there in studies’…
Because, they may be – and, often, they are – some of the most ‘intelligent’
and sincere individuals… There is ample evidence to show that many of them do
exceptionally well, later in their lives…
But, the ‘tough time’ is now… For all: the
parents, the teachers and even the individuals themselves!
Just today,
I was delivering my usual long-sermon to a batch of young students. Most of
them were highly capable, highly intelligent and even confident individuals…
But, the commitment and passion were wanting. For months on, I have been
watching them coming to me like a ‘herd’ – just mechanically… lost… and indifferent
to what is being said or taught… I have been watching the ‘disconnection’
between what is learnt here and how it is connected, there outside, to the
things they wanted to do in life… I have been watching with dismay how their
blind dependency on ‘outside’ help had destroyed their precious initiative… how
they had failed to take the risks they needed to take in order to grow… become
strong, confident and creative… I have been telling them about this repeatedly
and tirelessly… That, they had to find the reason why they had to do a thing
well… why they had to find the connection… why they had to trust in themselves,
take risks, be on their own… and, pour their full heart in what they did...
But, their time hasn’t come, yet…
There are many things in my life,
I do not do
with my full heart…
Only, some I do.
And, I do not have to tell you this: I shine
where I pour my full heart in!
I had grasped this truth somewhere along my own
journey…
Ever since then, I did not need ‘reminders’ about
it…
Yes, the time comes!
