CHANDRAYAAN AND GOOSEBUMPS

“Rocket ships are exciting;

but, so are the roses on a birthday.”

Leonard Nimoy

As far as the space-programme is concerned, our country has come a long way… From the humble beginnings - when a tiny rocket was transported on a bicycle to the successful launch of Chandrayaan 3 a couple of days ago – yes, it has not been an easy journey at all for our space scientist. The thought and the sight of the rocket going to up makes all of us proud. Like millions of my fellow citizens, I, too, got goosebumps, watching Chandrayaan 3 going up, and listening to Vande Mataram, here on ground zero…

Goosebumps!

While most of us got goosebumps watching our self-made rocket going to the Moon, I wonder if you get similar goosebumps when we watch the birth of a new baby – be it of any creature here on earth – Similarly, I wonder if we get similar goosebumps, when surgeon open a human heart to mend it… or, for that matter, any part of human body… I wonder if we get similar goosebumps when we watch flowers in our garden bloom, the Sun rises in the East every morning, or sets on the West every evening… I wonder if we get similar goosebumps

when we watch the waves of the sea or listen to the songs of the birds… I wonder if we get similar goosebumps, when we experience romance in our bosoms or healing in our hearts through forgiveness…

Everything God has created, we tend to take for granted… from the gentle breeze to the robust winds… the plains, the meadows, the deserts, and the mountains… the Stars, the Moon, and the Sun… everything is just there…

Is not everything supposed to give us goosebumps, even by a mere thought of it?

But, then, we don’t hear the glory songs or the chest-thumping… We hear them only when we create our little rockets to go up and find out what is there on the Moon or the Mars…

Meanwhile, the Brahmand smiles… sorry, feels amused – watching our goosebumps!

Yes, Leonard Nimoy was right when he said: “The rocket ships are exciting; but, so are the roses on a birthday.”
