WHAT A CHILD WILL BECOME TOMORROW

“We worry what a child will become tomorrow;

yet, we forget that he is somebody today.”

Stacia Tauscher

His name is Namoh. They say, he is weak in studies, a slow learner, a tortoise. But, those who are very close to him – his parents and coaches – say, that he is strong in gymnastics... he is excellent, a Champ...

So, the battle rages on: People like me, who coach Namoh in his academic subjects, often worry about his attendance... Every time I start a new chapter, Namoh has to proceed on a long-distance tour, often forcing him to miss his classes for weeks... We worry, saying that he is not good in any chapter... “How will he clear his 12th Boards?”

Yes, this is how the world wonders and worries unless it takes notice of the ‘good’ that resides in the young kid, right now... The world is a stereotype... I am no exception...

Unless, the young kid is me... Stacia Tauscher’s words come to remind me:

“We worry what a child will become tomorrow;

yet, we forget that he is somebody today.”

Did the world ‘worry’ about me as a young kid, when I was no good in studies or did not display any major talent? At least, my 17-year-old student, Namoh, is clearly displaying his talent in gymnastics. But, at his age, I did not. But, as years rolled by, I woke up to my talent – what I loved most doing – and, I went about following that passion...

The world is a stereotype world... It’s hard to shake off the way the world sees human potential...

Hello, you and I cannot do gymnastics the way my student Namoh has trained himself to do. My teachers must’ve worried about my future when I was Namoh’s age. Today, when I am tempted to worry about this young boy, yes, I fail to notice, that he is already a ‘somebody’ today...

Last night, my son was ecstatic as Jemimah Rodrigues steered Indian women’s team to a spectacular victory in the semifinals against the formidable Aussie team. “You must watch this,” my son called me to join him, “It’s an unbelievable victory.”

Well, I do not have to add more to this already sensational news and sensation named Jemimah Rodrigues. As the world heaped praises on this 25-year-old, highly-spirited cricket star, I was wondering about her teachers in school and college: “Did they not worry about her attendance and her future?”

We never know who becomes what in life. The only thing we should not forget is to believe in the seeds of goodness we already possess in our souls...

Kahlil Gibran says this to parents:

“You are the bows from which your children are sent forth.”

The mystic Gibran also reminds, that the bending of the bows is in the hands of the Great Archer... “He sees the mark upon the path of the infinite... And He bends you with His might.”

Be still... to hear this!
