IF YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, THE WORLD BELIEVES IN YOU

“If you really show your desire, determination and commitment,” I tell every young one, “Your parents will support you all the way.” I add, “If you don’t show these qualities to them, you have no right to expect their support.”

This, in brief, is the story, today!

Why don’t many parents have faith in their young ones?

Because, the young ones have not demonstrated enough faith in themselves!

My observation has been this: Young kids should learn to discover, early, what they are passionate about in life. Luckily, many parents, too, are able to discover the passions of their young ones… Like, sports, drawing, singing, dancing, music, writing and so on. They, also, encourage their young ones to excel in their passions. Initially, the young ones show commitment. But, as the years pass by, the commitment fades, the desire and determination die…

If only the young ones knew how to remain focused… how to keep on pursuing their hearts’ desires!

So, when focus fades, when desire and determination die out, when there is no commitment – how do you expect the parents to support their young kids? On the contrary, all that you can expect is ridicule, cold water!

The problem, therefore, is not the lack of talent. It is the lack of enough desire, determination, focus and commitment. Talents go wasted… It is trust deficit - trust in self, trust in others.

The kids who shine are the ones who remain faithful to their hearts… They have their parents’ and well-wishers’ support, all the way…

Like me, many of you must’ve heard about Lydian Nadhaswaram recently, when he exploded on the global stage, winning the CBS Talent Show ‘The World’s Best’ challenge (and the associated cash-prize of one-million US-dollars). This 13-year-old kid hails from a Tamil family. His father is a music director of Tamil films. Lydian’s elder sister, in his own admission, is a far better musician… He says, that his mother, too, breathes music!

Lydian’s interest in music started showing right since he was a two-year-old baby… He started playing tabla, drums, flute and many other Indian instruments. Finally, barely a couple of years ago, he took to Piano… And, he mastered it like a true Maestro… playing it with a lightning speed, with one hand, blind-folded, two pianos at one time, with each of his hand!

About six to seven hours practice every day, Sir… And, because he was so good, focused and committed, Little Lydian’s family stood by him all the way to the World Stage in America!

Personally, I am not overawed by ‘The Word’s Best’ title and the prize money of one-million US-dollars. That’s truly pale, I think, compared to the dedication this little boy from Chennai had put in… and continues to put in!

I was so moved by the humility and shyness of Lydian and his father! The father’s tears were my own… The kid’s story is our own…

It’s a universal story… That, if you believe in yourself, the world believes in you… If you don’t, how can the world do?
