CONTRADICTIONS OF LIFE

There are two tragedies in Life:

One is to lose your heart’s desire. The other is to gain it.”

George Bernard Shaw

A hungry man doesn’t need fasting to please God… He is already fasting. He wants desperately some food to eat. Therefore, Swami Vivekananda said, “A hungry man’s God lives in his cooking pot.”

It’s one of the contradictions of life. The contradictions are ironies, paradoxes… and, they are not only amazing, but, they can be, also, funny, at times… Just look at these contradictions of life. A dear friend of mine had shared them with me the other day…

CONTRADICTIONS OF LIFE

Author unknown

1.    Inspite of so many colours, white is considered class.

2.    Inspite of so many voices and sounds, silence is considered ultimate.

3.    Inspite of so much to eat, fasting is considered healthy.

4.    Inspite of so much to travel and explore, meditation under trees and on mountains is considered superior.

5.    Inspite of much to see, closing eyes and looking within is considered Apex.

6.    Inspite of listening to all the outside world, voice from inside you are considered eternal.

7.    Inspite of a sweet charming life, a peaceful soul is considered solace and divine.

You and I, who have excess food stored in our swollen bellies, fancy with the thought of abstaining from food now and then. Big deal! The man on the street wants to fill his stomach… and, you and I want to give it some rest…

Similarly, poor people, who live along the riverbanks, the seashores or the mountaintops, are least interested in beholding a rising or a setting Sun… nor are they interested in seeking peace through mediation… They look forward to earn a living when you and I go there on a vacation or retreat.  We can afford to that… They can’t.

Each of the seven contradictions stated above tells us a similar story: We come the full circle to appreciate the beauty of Life… We all come back where we had started!

The Kingdom of God is within us, and the acres of diamonds are right under our feet. This realization, invariably for all of us, comes when our restless pursuit comes to an end…

Silence is that…

Peace is that…

Understanding is that…

Whiteness is that…

Life means living with contradictions… And, is that not something beautiful about Life?
