SMASHANA VAIRAGYA
“A new world order can only be created
if we establish an order
where the powerful wolf cannot eat the weak
lamb!”
―
So,
is it all over – I mean, that Sunday 5 p.m. thing – the taali, thaali
and ghanti?
Is the time to
say ‘Thank you’ done and gone?
Is there anyone
left out there to be thanked?
King Solomon –
the wise king – wore the magic ring, which had this constant reminder: ‘This, too,
shall pass’…
How nice! What a
great reminder!
But, the irony
of this old-testament story is this: We use these words to remind us of the ‘achhe
din’ only when we are neck-deep in our bure din. But, when our days
are rocking, we never remind ourselves: “Hold on dude,... This, too, shall pass… Bure
din aane wale hai!”
Now, the bure
din are here again; and, suddenly, we are all reminded, “Hang on dude... This,
too, shall pass!”
Pass it will. For,
that’s how it has always been… The tide of Life!
The world will neither
end, nor will the way we all live. When we are at the smashan ghat, suddenly,
our hearts well up with gratitude, sorrow, repentance and all those ‘divine’ emotions…
We promise to God, right through those flames, to give up our ‘old ways’ and
start afresh, walking His way. But, then, by the time we are out of the smashan
ghat, out in smoke go our promises, too… It’s back to the same old ways!
The ‘Smashana Vairagya’ has gripped our hearts, all over again. Suddenly, we are telling
each other, that our world will not be the same again…
Really?
The
time to say a meaningful ‘Thank you’ is not an ‘event’ for photo-ops, video shootings
and chest-thumping. It’s a quiet, sublime moment on our knees… where our tears
are our only words, and our heartbeats and breaths are our only measures of
gratitude…
Life is a gift…
and everything it has given us is a gift, too…
Yes, Sir, it’s
never over!
