BAWAAL IS BEAUTIFUL
“If
you fuel your journey on the opinions of others,
you
are going to run out of gas.”
Steve
Maraboli
A
couple of days ago, a friend of mine messaged me saying, that she had just
watched the Hindi film ‘Bawaal’ (on Amazon Prime Video) and thoroughly loved
it. “Do watch it,” she had strongly suggested. Last night, my wife and I
watched this film and, yes, both of us thoroughly loved it, too…
And, just as my
friend did, we, too, have started recommending this film to some of our friends...
Incidentally, my
wife and I had not kept ourselves informed about this film… Neither had we watched
its trailer, promos or any reviews. We just watched this film on the recommendation of our dear friend, and happened to love it.
Today, I watched
some reviews of ‘Bawaal’ and read the comments below those reviews, more out of curiosity…
I was surprised at
the range of opinions – from unabashed praise to outright rebuke. What amused me
the most was how people loved to comment on the reviewer, too!
Bouquets and
brickbats are the products of our opinions… And, each one of us has his or her
own opinion… on everything under the sun!
If I praise
saying, ‘Bawaal is Beautiful’, the fellow next to me may surprise or shock me decrying,
“It is silly.”
To each, his own…
“Opinions are
the cheapest commodities in this world!” You see, this is an old saying…
And what about this
old story?
THE
THREE DONKEYS
One
day, a father and his son loaded goods on the back of their donkey and went to
the marketplace to sell them. By the afternoon, they had sold all the goods and
were returning home. The son was sitting on the donkey and the father was
walking…
Just
then, a stranger saw them and shouted, “What a pity! The young man is enjoying
the ride and the poor father is made to walk in the hot son.”
Immediately,
the son came down and the father went up…
Just
a while later, another stranger saw them and yelled, “What a sorry sight! The
strong man is enjoying the ride and the poor child is made to walk in the hot
son.”
Immediately,
they both mounted the donkey.
Barely
some distance they had proceeded, another passerby saw them and screamed, “How
heartless these humans can be! Look, the poor donkey is made to carry two
strong humans!”
Immediately,
they both got off the donkey, lifted him up, and carried him all the way home…”
“If
you fuel your journey on the opinions of others, you are going to run out of
gas.” Steve
Maraboli, probably, had not heard the story of ‘The Three Donkeys’. Else, he
would have said, “If you fuel your journey on the opinions of others, you will
end up carrying a donkey.” Sorry, “you will end up being a donkey.”
I can already
hear some voices, “Hey, you have abused an animal.”
Such are opinions…
So, I leave it
to you – to watch or not to watch ‘Bawaal’…
Meanwhile, I say, ‘Bawaal
is beautiful’…
