WHAT HAS TO UNFOLD... WILL UNFOLD

but, you can control your contribution to it.”

My aunt, Cecelia (Dad’s sister) was a Carmelite nun. She was known as Sr. Leo. She was a gentle soul… very soft-spoken and affectionate. Till she passed away, aunt lived at several convents far away from our native home. However, she occasionally visited all her relatives… She would spend a day or two at each of relative’s place. I remember her visit to our place when our son was very small. As a nun, her staple gift for us used to be some religious relics – like a scapular, a rosary, or a picture of Mother Mary, Jesus or a Saint. When she bid us goodbye, we would place an envelope in her hand with a small amount inside it… knowing well, that it would reach some poor souls in the remotest places where she served.

The life of a nun is a life of great discipline. Even though aunt, Sr. Leo, stayed for a day or two in our households, she followed her spiritual routine very strictly… She woke up early, attended the morning mass in a nearby church, ate simple food very sparingly, said her evening prayers, ate dinner early, and retired, too early. When we stayed back to watch a TV programme, aunt was already off to bed…

Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel… Jennifer, my cousin, shared this message early in the morning:

“Dear Gerry, Happy Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I, always, remember and pray for Cecilia  aunty (Sr. Leo) on this Feast Day.”

Late last night, before retiring, my son had shared this news, with the heading: “This Happened Today”…

I replied, “It seems, a 20-year-old did it and was shot dead, too. Don’t wish to comment further.”

Son replied, “Yes, but, it’s scary how easily their security was breached. Irrespective of political opinion, it’s dangerous that a 20-year-old is able to get this close to gunning down a former President.” My son had added, “Now, this will work in his favour politically as well. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.”

It was midnight. I sealed the conversation with this:

“Son, whatever way it unfolds, you and I will have to get up, dress up and show up early in the morning, tomorrow. Good night.”

In the morning, today, when Jennifer reminded me of aunt Cecilia – Sr. Leo, I had already showed up to my work…

What has to unfold… will unfold…

Simpler the life, the better it is.
