YES, IT'S THE LIFE IN YOUR TIME
“It’s
not the the time in your life,
it’s
the life in your time.”
Bruce
Springsteen
The
Monday blues are here, again; and, I have been trying to chase them away by
listening to my favourite performer Bruce Springsteen’s songs. In fact, I had
been watching many of his performances right through yesterday… and, today,
here I am watching this one over and over again…
Ever
since this song –‘Treat Her Right’ – was first recorded by Roy Head in 1965,
more than twenty well-known artistes have performed the same, adding their-own distinct
touch. I have watched the original version by Roy Head, the one by Tom Jones,
and the one in the 2019 movie ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’…
But, none of
them had succeeded in chasing my blues away as the endearing version by Bruce
Springsteen did. Everything about this stage performance is so lively, so
spontaneous, and so simple yet compelling... that, there is something about it one
cannot describe in words. Just as Bruce himself says, in the middle of his performance…
“Wait a minute… This song goes by so fast, that people don’t get the words,
they don’t listen to the words… Words are the most important thoughts… So
listen…” He starts it, all over again, going very, very slowly… and then,
building its tempo with his insane guitar and vocal skills…
The icing on the
cake is that random girl from the crowd, who climbs up on the ramp to dance –
and as the young ones would describe in their lingo – ‘to kill it’!
The way the performance
unfolds on stage is so heartwarming, that it makes one watch it, over and over
again…
“It’s not the
time in your life, it’s the life in your time.” I have quoted Bruce Springsteen
at the outset of this Post… And, are we
reading them slowly, to grasp the meaning of those words?
“Treat Her
Right,” is not just about treating your ‘Baby’ right. To me, it’s about treating
everything in life right… Pausing time to time, to go slowly, very slowly… and,
then, building up the tempo, all over again – singing, dancing and celebrating…
Yes, it’s the
life in your time, and not the time in your life!
Go, dance…
