BAS KAR BHAI, 'RADHE' FLOP HO GAYI

“Ek baar maine commitment kar di,

toh phir mein apne aap ki bhi nahin sunta.”

Salman Bhai

One of my dear-old students, Sumeet, has been a die-hard fan of Salman Khan. He loves to flaunt his body, looks, clothes, style, speech and, almost, everything like Salman bhai

So, ever since bhai’s ‘Radhe’ was released on Eid day, amidst all the hilarious memes and reviews from all and sundry, Sumeet, the Salman bhakt, posted his latest bhaiwala selfie:

Instantly, I saw the reaction from Prashant, one of Sumeet’s FB friends:

“Bas kar bhai, ‘Radhe’ flop ho gayi’!

Knowing my dear-old student’s dear-old devotion to Salman bhai, I am sure, woh bas nahi karega, flop or super flop. Just as bhai famously declared – and repeats it in ‘Radhe’ - “Ek baar maine commitment kar di, toh phir mein apne aap ki bhi nahin sunta.”

And, we may be fools… Salman is not. He has already made his bucks even before this movie was made. He has enough fans – call them bhakts or fools – to ensure the steady return on his capital.

This world is made of all kinds of Khans… There are Aamir Khans and there are Shah Rukh Khans… There are Saif Ali Khans and there are Irrfan Khans… And, yes, there are Salman Khans. And, I think, this world is an amazing place to live in because of these contrasts and ironies… These paradoxes. In fact, the world needs these contrasts. So, as ‘Radhe’ flops in the eyes of many of us, it shines in the eyes of many in this world, too!

The next Eid, even if the deadly virus won’t go, bhai will stick to his commitment… Take it from me, he has already put his money and mouth, both, in ‘Radhe 2’, aka - ‘Radhe Returns’!

Wait and watch, guys!

Every summer, in our P. D. sessions, I used to tickle our young ones and little ones with this lighter topic to debate on: ‘Aamir Khan or Salman Khan, my choice”.

The choice was so easy for almost every one of them. But, I learnt one thing from these annual summer-experiments. That, there is a reason why some of us may adore an Aamir Khan and there is a reason why some of us  may adore a Salman Khan. You see, intensity is not everybody’s cup of tea. I remember asking, one night, my funny friend, Bipin bhai, “‘Taare Zameen Par’ dekha?”

“Pagal hoon kya?” he asked me on my face, “paise dekh ke kyun roneka?”

It’s very clear: Life already has enough sadness and seriousness. If a Salman Khan, Manmohan Desai or Rajinikant can help us escape from our daily realities to some crazy world, why not pay three-hundred bucks and do some whistle podu?

Personally, I wouldn’t like to watch a ‘Radhe’ or ‘Dabangg’. Yes, I may love to watch a ‘Lagaan’ or ‘Taare Zameen Par’. But, having closely observed how our young ones and little ones reacted to the topic of the debate, I am more accommodating in my attitude, now…

Meanwhile, the memes are doing rounds faster than yesterday’s cyclone, that BMC has decided to poke all those maskless wanderers on the Mumbai’s streets three doses of this newest vaccine – Salman bhai’s ‘Radhe’… Back-to-back, bhai shappat!
